From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
